This half–day tour takes you to two of the most unique Inca engineering and agricultural sites in the Sacred Valley.

ITINERARY

Cusco – Maras – Moray – Cusco

  • We start with pick-up from your accommodation within the Historic Center of Cusco or from a designated meeting point around 8 a.m., and head to the Sacred Valley. Our first stop is a short visit to Maras town. Then we continue to Moray, where you’ll explore the incredible circular terraces and learn how the Incas experimented with microclimates to improve crops.
  • Afterward, we visit the Maras salt mines, known for the impressive evaporation ponds built on the mountainside. You’ll learn about traditional salt extraction and have time to enjoy the views and buy local salt products or souvenirs made of salt if you wish. After the visits, we return to Cusco — arriving in the early afternoon around 3 p.m.

  • Initial altitude: Cusco – 3,400 m
  • Highest altitude: Moray – 3,500 m approx.
  • Walking time: ( 1-2 hours approx.)
  • Driving Time: Approx. 3 hours (1.5 hours each way)
  • Group Size: 12 to 20 people
  • Duration: Half-day (4-5 hours approx.)

  • Partial ticket for Moray: 70 soles in cash, or a 10‑day full ticket: 130 soles in cash

The tourist ticket for 10 days is included in most of our package tours, giving you easy access to the main attractions throughout your trip.

Packing List

  • Essentials: Carry a small backpack for your water bottle, sunscreen, and cash in soles for the Boleto Turístico (Moray entrance) and the Maras Salt Mines entrance, plus souvenirs if desired.
  • Clothing & Footwear: Dress in layers (t-shirt + light sweater) and bring a windproof jacket, as it can be breezy at Moray. Wear comfortable walking shoes or sneakers with good grip for the uneven paths.
  • Accessories: Bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen (SPF 50 recommended). The sun is very strong at high altitude. After-sun lotion is optional.
  • Food & Water: There are no vendors on the trail, so bring plenty of water and high-energy snacks.


FAQs

Are entrance fees included and where can I buy the ticket?

Entrance fees are not included. Moray requires the Boleto Turístico (Partial or General), which can be purchased in Cusco or at the first archaeological site. The Maras Salt Mines entrance is paid separately in cash (soles).

Can I pay with a credit card the entrance fees?

No. All ticket offices (Cathedral, Qoricancha, and ruins) only accept Cash in Peruvian Soles.

Do I need my physical passport?

Yes. You must show your original passport to buy the Tourist Ticket.

When are the rainy and dry seasons?

  • Dry Season (May to October): Sunny days, blue skies, and very cold nights. This is the busiest time for tourism.
  • Rainy Season (November to April): Rain is frequent, especially in the afternoons. January and February are the wettest months.

Will the altitude affect me?

The tour is easy and involves mostly bus travel. Drink water and walk slowly at the ruins.

Are there bathrooms at the sites?

Yes, at the entrance of the archaeological sites. You will need 1 or 2 Soles in coins to use them.

What happens if it rains?

The tour continues. Please bring a rain poncho or rain jacket.
